Obesity rates are on the rise and 65% of U.S. adults now are overweight or obese. In addition to the ridicule faced by those who are living with obesity, weight gain increases a person’s risk for a number of diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and cancer.

For some, diet and exercise are not enough and significant weight loss can only be achieved with surgery. Mercy surgeons are now offering a minimally invasive surgery called Lap-Band. Learn about this minimally invasive weight-loss procedure to treat obesity at a free information session. Using the Lap-Band System, Mercy surgeons are helping those living with obesity regain control and live more active, fulfilling lives.

The session will be held Monday, Oct. 19, at 5:30 p.m., Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, 2525 S. Michigan Ave., second floor, Joyce Auditorium. For information or to register, call (312) 567-2263 or e-mail lapband@mercy-chicago.org.
