Taylor Street Archives increases local activities
February 14, 2010The Taylor Street Archives (TSA), www.TaylorStreetArchives.com, is offering one $1,000 scholarship to a student in high school, college, or graduate school who has at least one family member registered with the archives. Applicants must submit a story or essay about the Taylor Street/Little Italy area. An application and additional information are available on the TSA website.
All with a Taylor Street connection are invited to join the TSA by submitting their names to add another branch to the Family Tree on the website and by submitting stories and pictures to expand on the theme of “Growing Up in Taylor Street’s Little Italy.”
TSA has upgraded its site to include a search engine, sponsor page, neighborhood/groups page, Family Tree application, and teachers’ resource page.
Vince Romano of the TSA said a book that will include a chapter on neighborhood groups, clubs, and themes is nearing completion; he requested that those with information about groups send it to the TSA.
A hard copy of TSA’s information is available at the Roosevelt Branch of the Chicago Public Library, 1101 W. Taylor St.
Romano has added new stories about community activist Florence Scala and local Italian-Americans who fought in World War II.
