‘Glimmer of progressive light’
March 3, 2010Dear Editor:
Toni Preckwinkle won the Democratic primary for Cook County Board President. I have known her from my ollege days at the University of Chicago, where I ran in the same track club with her husband, Zeus. I have always greatly admired her as she moved into politics, and know her to be one of those rare in public office for the right reasons—to actually try to make people’s lives better, and to do so in a fully ethical way. Plus, she (and her husband) are really intelligent, and she’s also very level-headed and calm and very authentic.
The county couldn’t be in better hands. I’m amazed she wants to take on all the problems that the county has, but am thrilled because there couldn’t be a better person to try to tackle the challenges.
I’m quite sure she will beat the Republican in the fall. Now I’m hoping maybe some day she will run for U.S.
resident—that would be a woman I could be fully thrilled about voting for as the first female President.
One glimmer of progressive light.
