The Alliance for a Greener South Loop has announced the results of the organization’s second annual Greener South Loop Awards competition. South Loop businesses, buildings, and an educational institution won this year’s awards.

In the institution category, the Green Award went to East-West University, 816 S. Michigan Ave.

Business category winners were Interchange Medical Wellness Center, 1147 S. Wabash Ave., recipient of the Green Award; Three Peas Art Lounge, 75 E. 16th St., which earned the Greener Award; and Forth Group, 22 E. Cullerton St., recipient of the Greenest Award.

In the residential buildings category, Dearborn Tower Condominium Assn., 1530 S. State St., won the Greenest Award, followed by the State Place Condominium Assn., 1101 S. State St., recipient of the Greener Award, and the Donohue Building Condominium Assn., 711-727 S. Dearborn St., which earned the Green Award.

“The judges used a scoring matrix to assign a numeric value to each response, and then by adding each value each applicant earned an overall score,” explained Gail Merritt, an alliance founder. The award level was based on the numeric ranking of the scores as determined by the range of scores applications received, she said.

This year’s judges were Katie Kaluzny, LEED green associate and associate director, U.S. Green Building Council, and Joe Leamanczyk, project manager, office of campus environment, Columbia College.
