The community now is represented by two new members of the Illinois General Assembly.

Derrick Smith now is the West Side’s 10th District member of the Illinois House of Representatives. He succeeds Annazette Collins, who became a State Senator for the West Side’s 5th District after Senator Rickey Hendon resigned.

Kimberly du Buclet now is the Near South Side’s 26th District member of the Illinois House. She succeeds Will Burns, who earlier this year was sworn in as 4th Ward Alderman.

Derrick Smith.
Smith had been director of accounting revenue for the Illinois Secretary of State. Du Buclet previously has worked at AT&T and has been a faculty member at the University of Chicago and Roosevelt University.

The two were chosen by Democratic Party committee persons. Under State law, when a vacancy occurs in a State House or Senate seat, the committee person from the party that last won the seat chooses the successor. Smith is on the House Human Services, Cities & Villages, State Government Administration, Appropriations-Public Safety, and Housing Committees.

Du Buclet is on the Health Care Availability Access, Small Business Empowerment and Workforce, Higher Education, Appropriations-Human Services, Health and Healthcare Disparities, and Tourism and Conventions Committees.
