Letter: Robert Steele remembered
July 7, 2017

Dear Editor:

Robert Steele.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele.

I had the pleasure of serving with Robert for the last 11 years where he worked diligently on behalf of the residents of Cook County. Before joining the Cook County Board, Robert’s commitment to public service as a way of assisting his community was demonstrated by his focus on community-outreach and his participation with local non-profit organizations and hospital boards.

Throughout his tenure on the Board Robert was a great advocate for the County’s Health and Hospital System and also worked to increase awareness of the importance of organ donation as a way of helping those in need.

On behalf of the entire Daley family, I offer my thoughts and prayers to his mother, former Board President Bobbie Steele, and to his family in this time of sorrow.

John P. Daley
Cook County Commissioner,
11th District

Editor’s note: Commissioner Robert Steele, 55, passed away on June 19. He followed his mother, Bobbie Steele, as 2nd District Commissioner, being appointed in 2006 and winning re-election in 2010 and 2014. The 2nd District covers the Near West and West Sides. His replacement will be chosen by Democratic committeepersons in the area.
