Dear Readers:

After more than 20 years of exceptional service and dedication to our Gazette Chicago newspaper, Advertising Manager Carmen P. Valentino is transitioning from her role this summer. Carmen will be devoting more time as a licensed insurance broker with The Healthcare Solutions Team, where she began working more than two years ago. Carmen works with individuals and businesses locally and nationally to help them find affordable health care plans. The work is very rewarding personally, but also extremely time consuming.

Under Carmen’s vision and leadership, Gazette Chicago has grown in stature substantially within our community. She is to be commended for all that she has done to create strong relationships with Gazette Chicago advertisers. The newspaper staff owes her a great debt of gratitude as advertising revenue is the sole resource we have to publish Gazette Chicago each month.

Of course, we remain very grateful to our many advertisers as well for supporting our efforts to bring our ten vibrant communities together by offering award-winning community journalism—at a level of coverage unsurpassed anywhere in the Chicago area.

Carmen will stay involved with Gazette Chicago as its business manager.

Assuming the important role of advertising manager is Julie Becker. Julie has served as a graphic designer for Gazette Chicago for the past seven years. Julie is now serving Gazette Chicago in both capacities. Julie looks forward to getting to know our advertisers. She will be meeting other area businesses as well, inviting them to also use Gazette Chicago as a primary source of advertising to reach more than 55,000 loyal readers each month between our print and electronic editions.

“I have enjoyed my time as advertising manager so much these past twenty-plus years,” said Carmen Valentino. “To have the opportunity to meet so many business owners and other residents in our community has been very rewarding. The ability to help expand Gazette Chicago into new neighborhoods over the years has also been something of which I am proud to have been a part.

“I have worked closely with Julie these past seven years, and I am very confident she will do a great job,” added Carmen Valentino. “She understands the special relationships between our clients and Gazette Chicago and she will use her strong communication, sales, and graphic design skills to help our current and future advertisers benefit from advertising in Gazette Chicago.

“I want to thank the many advertisers who have supported Gazette Chicago during my time as advertising manager. It has been a pleasure working with all of you, and I look forward to your continued support of our newspaper and look forward to seeing you in the community,” she added.

“I’m really excited to take on an expanded role here at Gazette Chicago,” Becker said. “Carmen and I will continue to work together during this time of transition, and I have enjoyed meeting some of our advertisers. I look forward to spending more time in the community and assisting our business owners and local institutions with their advertising needs.”

During this time of transition in the months of July and August, please give a warm welcome to Julie and reach out to her or Carmen if you have any questions.

To  contact Julie, call directly at (630) 890-5967 or the Gazette Chicago office at (312) 243-4288 or email

Thank you for all you do to make Gazette Chicago the respected newspaper of record in our community. Thank you, too, for acknowledging the incredible work and effort that Carmen has provided Gazette Chicago these many years and for welcoming Julie into her new position.
