Silent hybrids dangerous to visually impaired

This letter is a plea to all automobile drivers, especially those operating hybrid cars. I am almost totally blind and use a white cane to help me get around. On Wednesday, June 9 at about 8:40 a.m., I was nearly struck by a hybrid car at the corner of Wood and Taylor Streets.

The Gazette’s May 7, 2010 story (“Omitted Assessments Law Change Stymied by Illinois General Assembly”) and the accompanying editorial (“Property Tax ‘Omitted Assessments’ Reign of Error”) contained significant errors and omissions. These mistakes could have been avoided had your paper contacted the Cook County Assessor’s Office before running these pieces.

Witnesses to accident sought

I was an avid walker. And every day I would walk the same route to/from work at UIC. On August 5, 2009, at 6:15 p.m., I was hit by a car on the southwest corner of Ashland and Polk. The make/model of the car that hit me is a Honda Accord, maroon in color.
