This letter is a plea to all automobile drivers, especially those operating hybrid cars. I am almost totally blind and use a white cane to help me get around. On Wednesday, June 9 at about 8:40 a.m., I was nearly struck by a hybrid car at the corner of Wood and Taylor Streets.
The Gazette’s May 7, 2010 story (“Omitted Assessments Law Change Stymied by Illinois General Assembly”) and the accompanying editorial (“Property Tax ‘Omitted Assessments’ Reign of Error”) contained significant errors and omissions. These mistakes could have been avoided had your paper contacted the Cook County Assessor’s Office before running these pieces.
I congratulate your celebration of the 27th anniversary of your publication, the Gazette. Your commitment is a lesson to all who wish to communicate with a print audience. One must have a sense of mission, of relevance to the lives of people. Clearly, you have adopted that mission and have that relevance.

I was an avid walker. And every day I would walk the same route to/from work at UIC. On August 5, 2009, at 6:15 p.m., I was hit by a car on the southwest corner of Ashland and Polk. The make/model of the car that hit me is a Honda Accord, maroon in color.
